July 7, 1974 — Oct. 9, 2021
William Brian Flood (“Brian”), 47, a longtime resident of Davis, passed away unexpectedly from as-yet-undetermined causes on Oct. 9, 2021, in Spokane, Wash. Although his life had many trials and personal struggles, including a bout with leukemia when he was in his 20s and other more recent health challenges, Brian wanted to change his life for the better and had moved to Spokane in 2019 to do so.
Brian was born on July 7, 1974, in Pomona, the eldest child of William A. Flood and Sharon Repp. When he was a small child, his family lived in Monterey, and Brian had fond memories of watching the “boots” in the bay. Later on, his family moved to Davis, where Brian grew up and attended local schools: Valley Oak Elementary, Birch Lane Elementary, and Holmes Junior High School. In his high school years, Brian went to live with his father in the exotic, faraway land of Guam.
After he returned from Guam, Brian lived most of his adult life in Davis. There, he met and married Heather, his former wife, and together they had four beautiful children. Brian enjoyed being a father, and his children meant the world to him. He delighted in playing with them, inventing creative games (“lobster”) and taking them swimming and to all the parks in Davis.
Brian was young at heart. He lived his life with youthful curiosity about the world and its current events and trends. He was an avid reader, and throughout his life, he collected books. On most evenings, he could often be found reading one of his favorites. In his younger days, he dreamed of being a teacher.
With so many years still ahead of him, Brian’s death at the age of 47 is a great loss, especially to his four children.
Predeceased by his father William A. Flood and his nephew Henry Burmester, Brian is survived by his children William Christopher Flood of Davis and Delaney, Jordan and Michael Flood of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; mother Sharyn Repp of Woodland; sister Kristina Flood (Daryll) of Davis; brother Daniel Burmester (Audrey) of Capitola; sister Katreeya Flood of Santa Barbara; stepmother Komol “Meow” Flood of Manteca, niece Claire Burmester; ex-wife Heather Braun (Michael) of Calgary; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the Braun, Sullivan and Gilhooly families.
Family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate Brian’s life on April 16, at 2 p.m. at Woodstock’s Pizza in Davis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI Yolo County.
