Dozens of people have been rescued from flooding after parts of eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas saw very heavy rainfall overnight from 04 May 2022.
The city of Rogers in Benton County, Arkansas recorded 114.3 mm (4.5 inches) in 24 hours to 05 May 2022. Muskogee in Oklahoma recorded 181.9 mm (7.16 inches) during the same period.
Over 50 roads were closed in Benton County, where emergency teams rescues at least one person from flood waters and recovered 17 stranded vehicles.
In Washington County in Arkansas around 60 people were evacuated from a flooded apartment complex in Fayetteville, while over 30 people were recued or evacuated by firefighters after homes flooded in Johnson.
In Oklahoma, the worst of the flash floods affected Okmulgee County, where the county’s Emergency Management Department reported 35 water rescues. Significant damage was reported in nearby Seminole, Oklahoma, after a tornado ripped through the city. The Red Cross has set up a shelter for displaced residents.
National Weather Service (NWS) Little Rock warned that river flooding is expected over the next several days along the Arkansas, Black, Ouachita, and White Rivers due to the recent heavy rainfall.
