Hyderabad: Issues related to urban flooding in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and its vicinity are expected to recede in 2022 by monsoon.
At a recent meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and attended by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department Special Chief Secretary, Arvind Kumar, the deadline to complete the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) works was set. Senior officials of line departments including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar also participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, officials of line departments were instructed to call the top 20 contractors in the State and hand over the SNDP works as per norms. They were also instructed to make sure the works were completed before the coming monsoon.
The SNDP was exclusively formed to develop and maintain the storm water drains in the city and its surroundings. To execute the task, administrative sanction for Rs 858 crore was already accorded by the State government.
To accomplish the work within the stipulated time, teams comprising officials from GHMC, police, revenue, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited will be formed. Each team will be handed over with an exclusive storm water drain stretch and the onus of ensuring the completion of works in time in their jurisdiction, would be on them.
The teams would conduct field inspections for land clearances as per the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR) and utility shifting along the drains. The teams would also submit the report to the GHMC Zonal Commissioners of their respective jurisdiction.
As a part of the exercise, the officials should make a profile of each work in a power point presentation format while including a map of the work, properties affected, nearest 2-BHK site available and utilities that need to be shifted. Meanwhile, the review of SNDP works will be conducted by the Chief Secretary every Tuesday at 10:30 am and field visits will also be done every week to check the progress of major storm water drains.
