Two people were rescued Tuesday afternoon from the flood control channel in Mission Valley as rains pounded the region, officials said.
Someone called 911 to report the pair had been swept into water near the tank farm on Mission Center Road, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue update posted to Twitter.
The call came in just before 12:35 p.m. and officials said they had the San Diego Lifeguard River Rescue Team on scene in seven minutes.
Fire officials reported having both victims pulled from the water by 1:13 p.m. Both were receiving medical attention.
No further details were immediately available.
In El Cajon more than an hour later, about 1:50 p.m., fire crews received a report of a person swept into the drainage canal known as Forester Creek, near North Johnson and Arnele avenues.
Firefighters from various agencies searched the canal to the point where it meets the San Diego River in Santee but were unable to locate anyone in the water or its banks, said Andy McKeller, spokesperson for Heartland Fire & Rescue. The search was called off about 2:40 p.m.
